About Us
Sydney's Leading Ashram and Yoga School
Our Mission
Leading the way in Life Education and Yoga Studies
Govinda Valley is paving the way in life education.
Our mission is to rapidly transform and inspire individuals to discover their true purpose and lead spiritually-aligned lives. Through immersive 4-month courses that explore ancient yogic sciences such as yogic astrological science (Jyotish), ancient practices including breathwork, yoga postures and meditation, coupled with Ayurveda (the ancient science of healthful living), we offer a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity that empowers individuals to uncover their true selves and courageously pursue their life purpose.
Our Educational Focus
Discover your Dharma
Everyone has a role to play on this planet and discovering our unique purpose will allow us to live full and meaningful lives for the betterment of self and others.
To assist all in realising their purpose, our courses revolve around the critical concept of Dharma (Identity and purpose). The dharma of any object is what expresses its essential character, its identity and purpose, as in the liquidity of water or the heat in fire. The sense we have of our own personal identity and purpose is what forms our dharma, and that dharma in turn serves as the very foundation – for better or worse – of our whole life.
Our Transformational Courses
One Year Learning Opportunity
Engage in 4 months of transformative study
or take the leap and study with us for up to 12 full months
We take a progressive approach to life education.
The Govinda Valley Curriculum comprises 3 Levels (semesters) of 4 months each allowing individual change to unfold with time and practice.
The Life Transformation Course is essentially a course in spiritual evolution, awakening us by stages from a condition of deep sleep to one of complete wakefulness on the platform of the eternal.
Although the stages are progressive, one building on top of the other, there is no compulsion to do all three courses. If all one is aspiring for is a happy and successful life as a human being, then Level 1 will be sufficient. If one aspires to a higher understanding of oneself beyond the body and mind, then having graduated level 1 one may apply for the Level 2 course. Having graduated Level 2, if one aspires to full wakefulness, or complete realisation of one’s eternal identity and purpose, then one may apply for the level 3 course.
Graduating level 3 will take 12 months of intense education, training and practice. Having completed the full 12-month course will qualify one to function in this world with complete confidence, not just in terms of one’s current human identity, but from a level of awareness that connects directly to the platform of eternal reality. In other words, a level 3 graduate will be equipped to operate within this world of relative dream, but from a position of complete wakefulness.
The condition of being completely awake in a spiritual sense is referred to in yoga texts as the state of samadhi. This is achieved, according to the Bhagavad-gita (the 5000-year-old seminal text on yoga and spiritual realisation):
“…when one’s mind is completely restrained from material mental activities by the practice of yoga. This perfection is characterized by one’s ability to see the true self by the pure mind, and to relish and rejoice in the self. In that supremely blissful condition, one is situated in boundless spiritual happiness realised through transcendental senses. Fixed in eternal reality one never departs from the truth, and, upon gaining this, one thinks there is nothing more to be gained. Being so situated one is never disturbed even in the midst of the greatest difficulties. Indeed, the self-realised soul not only enjoys a life of eternal bliss and knowledge, but experiences complete freedom from all miseries arising from material contact.” (Bhagavad-gita 6.20-23)
Our Core Values
Govinda Valley’s 3 core values, discipline, purity and service are the critical character commitments necessary for building a successful human life.
On the journey of self-discovery, knowledge and education, training and technique, encouragement and support are all important, but without a commitment to these core values – necessary for genuine transformation to take place, they are of no more use than valuable ornaments placed on a dead body.
Discipline
Purity
Service
Discipline
Discipline is the commitment we need to change us from what we are now, into what we want to be; to take us from where we are now, to where we want to go; and to transform us from who we think we are now, into who in truth we really are.
Purity
Purity the process by which we become progressively revealed to ourselves and to the world as we truly are, and the condition in which we will finally stand, so revealed. This includes the practice of cleaniliness, integrity and truth speaking.
Service
Service is our natural existential function, and the real value of our existence as a human being. We may exist without it, but we cannot live without it. Life is ultimately not about what we can get from it, it’s about what we can give to it.
